PT. Panaksara Pustaka, the holding company of Aksara was established in early 2001. Taken from a Sanskret word meaning letter of the alphabet, Aksara originaly started out its retail operation as a bookstore. But in 2002, Aksara became known as Aksara Bookstore and Aksara Music when CDs and Vinyl were thrown into the mix. In 2004 Aksara and Prodak, a retailer of gift items and furnitures, joined their retail operations and became Aksara: Books, Music, Gift, and Homewares.   

Aksara aims to provide a greate selection of products, vibrant ambiance and quality of customer service.  Passionate, Dynamic, Creative, Service-Oriented, Celebrating Individuality and Fun are values shared by 96 aksara employees.

Aksara’s flagship store and Headquarters are situated in the Kemang area. Aksara Cilandak Town Square was opened on the 18th of August 2003 in Cilandak Town Square. Aksara’s third branch, Aksara Plaza Indonesia, began operations July of 2004.
